The commemorative coins are dedicated to the 15th anniversary of adoption of the Act of Independence of Ukraine by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on August 24, 1991.

On the obverse of both coins there is a composition within the necklace circlet, which embodies the idea of Ukraine's integrity: the Small National Emblem of Ukraine is enframed in a vegetative ornament and held up by a lion and a Cossack with a musket;  there is a circumscription: on the silver coin - ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ/ ÁÀÍÊ/ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ/ 20/ ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ/ 2006 (The National Bank of Ukraine /20 Hrivnias /2006), indication of the metal - Ag 925, its fineness and the coin weight in fineness - 62.2 g;; 
on the German silver coin - ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ/ ÁÀÍÊ/ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ/ 5/ ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ/ 2006 (The National Bank of Ukraine /5 Hrivnias /2006).
On both coins there is the logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint.

 

On the reverse of both coins in the nacklace circlet against the background of the map of Ukraine there is the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the circumferential legend:  ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÀ/ 15 ÐÎʲ ÍÅÇÀËÅÆÍÎÑÒ² (Ukraine / 15 Years  of independence).
