The coins are dedicated
to an ice-breaker which for 50 years has been trailing other boats and which is
named after Mykhailo P. Belousov (1904 – 1946), an experienced polar captain
and Hero of the Soviet Union.
Since 1994 the ice-breaker belongs to the Mariupil state merchant marine and it is
still under operation.

On the coin obverse to the left there is a depiction of an anchor and a
steering-wheel and on its background there is the small State Emblem of Ukraine
is depicted, in the middle there are horizontal symbolic waves under-and above which and
to the right from the anchor there are
inscriptions: on the silver coin: ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÀ/2004 (above), 10/ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ,
and Ag 925, designation of metal, as well as 31,1, its pure weight (beneath);
on the German silver coin: ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÀ/2004 (above), 5/ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ (beneath). On
both coins there is the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine.

On the coin reverse
there is a depiction of an ice-breaker amidst blocks of ice, on the
background there is
a boat in pure water,
as well as inscriptions: “ÊÀϲÒÀÍ ÁªËÎÓÑΔ,
above in semicircle, and beneath - ÊÐÈÃÎËÀÌ, horizontal depiction upon glass
background.
