The coin is dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
The feat of arms of the Ukrainian people in this war is difficult to overestimate. A striking example of contribution of Ukrainians to the victory over fascist invaders is the number of their government awards: 2.5 mln of orders and medals of the total 7 mln were presented to the Ukrainian soldiers and officers. Ukraine has given to the Soviet army tens of thousands of officers, hundreds of generals, dozens of commanders. The people's struggle against physical annihilation of the nation gave rise to the phenomenon of great staying-power of  Ukrainian warriors and partisans.
