The coin is dedicated to 100 Years since the foundation of the National scientific centre "Institute for  wine growing and wine making named after Vasyl E. Tairov". For the period of the institute existing great achievements were made in development of new technologies for wine growing and wine treatment.
The formation and activities of this scientific institution is closely linked with the name of an outstanding scientist Vasyl E. Tairov, who founded the native scientific school for wine-growers and wine-makers.

On the coin obverse in the centre there is the small State Emblem of Ukraine, under it there is 2005, the coin mintage year, around the coin circumference there are inscriptions: ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ ÁÀÍÊ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ  (above), IJ ÃÐÈÂͲ (beneath) and the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine.

On the coin reverse a structure of the institute is depicted, on the background of which there is a portrait of  V.E.Tairov; over the portrait, between the years: 1905 2005 there is the institute logo, beneath - a conventionalized vine and a circular inscription: ²ÍÑÒÈÒÓÒ ÂÈÍÎÃÐÀÄÀÐÑÒÂÀ ² ÂÈÍÎÐÎÁÑÒÂÀ ²ÌÅͲ Â.ª.ÒÀ¯ÐÎÂÀ.
