Coins are dedicated to the Kyiv National University named after Taras
Shevchenko - one of the leading centres of education and science. Founded in
1834 this institution has made very significant contribution to the development
of the Higher School, science and culture and to raising spirituality of the
Ukrainian people. The University is associated with scientific activities of
many well-known scientists, as well as with formation and development of
distinguished scientific ideas and schools.

On the coins obverse there is a depiction of a
composition in the form of a laser disk, in the centre of which there is the
small State Emblem of Ukraine; on both sides of which there are objects and formulas
symbolizing various sciences and the following inscriptions: on the silver
coin - ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÀ (above in semicircle), 2004, 5 ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ (beneath),
as well as the designation of metal: Ag 925, and its pure weight - 15,55;
on the German silver coin- ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÀ (above in semicircle), 2004, 2
ÃÐÈÂͲ. On both coins there is the Mint logo of the National Bank of
Ukraine.

On the coins reverse there is the building of
the university (1837-1843, architect V.Beretti) and the following
inscriptions: ÊȯÂÑÜÊÈÉ ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ (above in semicircle),
under it - 1834 and ÓͲÂÅÐÑÈÒÅÒ ²ÌÅͲ ÒÀÐÀÑÀ ØÅÂ×ÅÍÊÀ
(beneath in three lines).
