Coins are dedicated
to Kharkiv National University, one of the leading centres of education
and science. The university was founded in 1804 on the initiative of an
outstanding enlightener V.N.Karazin and for about 200 years it has embodied
man's striving for knowledge and winning of scientific summits.

On the coins obverse
there is a symbolic depiction of of the Solar system as a part of the
Universe, which contains a "knowledge planet", above it and to the right,
there is a semicircular inscription: ÐÎÇÓÌ • ÇÍÀÍÍß • ÌÀÉÁÓÒͪ;
above to the left - the small State Emblem of Ukraine and inscriptions:
– on the silver coin: - 5 ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ/ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÀ 2004,
above the coin face value there is Ag 925, designation of metal and 15,55,
its pure weight.
– on the German silver coin – 2 ÃÐÈÂͲ/ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÀ 2004.
On both coins there is the Mint logo of the
National Bank of Ukraine.

On the coins reverse at the upper part
of the coin field, the modern building of the university is depicted,
at the coin lower part there is a mirror image of the old building of the
university and a circular inscription : ÕÀÐʲÂÑÜÊÈÉ ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ ÓͲÂÅÐÑÈÒÅÒ ²Ì. Â.Í.ÊÀÐÀDzÍÀ • 200 ÐÎʲÂ.
