The coin is dedicated to Taras Shevchenko, the
outstanding Ukrainian poet, artist and thinker (1814-1861).

On the coin obverse there is the Small State Emblem of Ukraine in the middle of the beads
circumference decoration, framed with guelder-rose sprays. Above the State
Emblem there is the year of issue - 1996. Around the coin circumference there
are inscriptions: ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÀ - above and 200 ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ - underneath in two lines.

On the coin reverse
in the center there is a portrait of T.H.Shevchenko with a poet's autograph
under it. Near the portrait there is a singing Kobzar with a boy-guide near a
village house. Above around the coin circumference there is the
inscription: Ò.Ã.ØÅÂ×ÅÍÊÎ 1814-1861, underneath there are designations of Àu
900 and 15,55, coin's pure weight.
