Jubilee coin of 5 Hryvnias denomination is dedicated to an ancient fortress-
town which defended eastern boarders of Kyivan Rus against the hordes of
Polovtsy. The first mention of the town was made in Lavrentiv chronicles among
the entries for the year 1096. At present it is a district centre of Summy
region, situates at the right bank of Soula river.

On the coin obverse
there is the small State Emblem of Ukraine and the conventionalized
inscriptions: ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÀ, 2002 (above) and 5, ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ (beneath). There also
depicted some conventionalized flowers on a cock which are embroidery elements
of Summy region, as well as the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine.

On the coin reverse
at the upper part of the coin field and between the circular inscriptions: ÐÎÌÅÍ
- ÐÎÌÍÈ there depicted an ancient and a modern town coat of arms on the
background of a baroque frame with the inscription: 1100 / ÐÎʲÂ; at the lower
part of the coin field there is a coalesced depiction of architectural monuments
and modern structures.
