The coin is dedicated to the city of Sevastopol (from Greek - a city of glory), an important sea port and fortress which was founded in 1783 near Chersonesus, the former Greek settlement. It is the largest sea commercial port, fish port, as well as industrial, scientific, cultural and historical centre of the South of Ukraine.

On the coin obverse there is a depiction of crossed anchors and a ship-gu symbolizing the city as a naval port and fortress,  beneath the gun there are conventionalized bunches of grapes; above there is the small National Emblem of Ukraine and the semicircular inscription: ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ ÁÀÍÊ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ (National bank of Ukraine, below -  ÄÅÑßÒÜ ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ/ 2008 (Ten Hryvnia/2008), designation of the metal Ag 925 and  31,1, its weight in fineness; on both coins there is the NBU Mint logotype.

On the coin reverse there is a depiction of the Grafska (earl)  wharf (beneath), a fortification structure, above which there is

the city coat of arms an the semicircular inscription: ÑÅÂÀÑÒÎÏÎËÜ (Sevastopol), to the right against the background of a conventionalized sea there is the legendary "Mercury" brig and beneath - the inscription: Ð²Ê ÇÀÑÍÓÂÀÍÍß/1783 (Year of the foundation/ 1783).
