The commemorative coin is dedicated to Sniatyn,
a picturesque town in the historical region of Pokuttia situated on the left bank of the Prut River
and a district centre of the Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. For the first time Sniatyn was mentioned in 1158
as a town of the Principality of Halych (Galicia) in the Hypatian Chronicle; in 1448 the town was granted Magdeburg Rights.

On the coin obverse
there is the image of the horseman, the voivode Kostiantyn Siroslavovych, the town founder;
on the right and on the left there is a conventionalized Pokuttian ornament;
above there is the Small National Emblem of Ukraine and the inscription ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ ÁÀÍÊ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ (National Bank of Ukraine); the legend 5 ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ 2008 (5 hryvnias 2008) is below,
as well as the logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint (on the right).

On the coin reverse
there is a conventionalized composition: to the left – the Town Hall building and the town coat of arms;
to the right – a detail of the architectural design of the Town Hall building with the eagle sculpture;
above there is the inscription ÑÍßÒÈÍ (SNIATYN) and below – 850/ÐÎʲ (850 years).
