The coin is dedicated to
the family of Ostrozhsky, a mighty princely family, which originates from the
Volyn offshoot of Monomakhs and Ruericks. For centuries this family has been a
symbol of patriotism and devotion to Ukraine and it has still continued to be
so. Representatives of this family were great admirers and patrons of
education, science and art in Ukraine, founders of the Ostrikh (1578) academy,
the first institution of higher learning in the Eastern Europe by which a
printing house was built.

On the coin obverse within
the frame of a conventionalized ornamental pattern, there is an icon
depiction of Our Lady of Duben and Elias, gifted by the prince Vasyl
Konstiantyn, above which there is the small State Emblem of Ukraine and
semicircular inscriptions: ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÀ (above), ÄÅÑßÒÜ ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ (beneath);
on the icon both sides there are: the coin mintage year – 2004 (left), the
Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine, Ag 925, designation of metal and
31,1, its pure weight (right).

and princess Elisabeth (Halshka) (1575 – 1642); above there is a semicircular
