Commemorative coins of 10 and 2 Hryvnias denomination are dedicated to BISON BONASUS, an almost completely destroyed representative of artiodactyl species in the fauna of Ukraine. Its population is successfully reproduced in Ukraine since 1965. This species is included to the Red Book of Ukraine and to the Red Book of Europe.

On the coin obverse within the window frame, formed by depictions of various species of flora and fauna there is the small State Emblem of Ukraine is depicted and the four-line inscriptions:
on the silver coin: ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÀ, 10, ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ, 2003, as well as Ag 925, designation of metal and  31,1, its pure weight.
On the coin of German silver: ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÀ, 2, ÃÐÈÂͲ, 2003 and on both coins there is the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine.

On the coin reverse there is a bison depiction, around which there are circular inscriptions: ÇÓÁÐ (above) and BISON BONASUS (beneath).
