Commemorative coins of 10 Hryvnias denomination is dedicated to the outstanding
Cossack military leader and active participant of liberation war of 1648 – 1654,
the famous ataman of Zaporizhzhia Sich, who used to organize successful
campaigns against Crimean khanate and Black Sea turkish fortresses. Due to his
inherent cleverness and great talent, Ivan Sirko (date of birth is unknown, died
in 1680) became one of the most outstanding statesmen and diplomats of his
time.

On the coin obverse
there is the composition general to the whole Series of coins which embodies the
national idea of the Unified Ukraine: the small State Emblem of Ukraine is
supported by the emblematic figures of Michael the Archistrategos and crowned
lion, which are symbols of Kyiv and L'viv Cities. On the coin there are the
conventionalized inscriptions: ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÀ, 2002, 10, ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ, the Mint logo, the
designation of precious metal - Ag 925 and its pure weight - 31,1.

On the coin reverse
within the frame of beads there is a depiction of the battle scene: Cossack
horsemen under the command of Ivan Sirko (to the right) follow the enemy which
is depicted on half moon background. Between the coin external edging and the
bead half circle there is a conventionalized inscription: ²ÂÀÍ Ñ²ÐÊÎ, beneath
there is his death date: 1680.
