The coin is dedicated to
Cymbals, the stringed percussion musical instrument, known in Ukraine since
olden days. It consists of wooden trapeziform body and metal strings which are
played by striking them with sticks or small hammers. The Cymbals have a rich
musical palette and are used in companies of folk musical instruments.

The fan-shaped relief surface of the coin obverse represents symbolic Cymbals
melody like a conventionalized Baroque ornament. There are depicted
inscriptions stylized like the Cossack print: ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ ÁÀÍÊ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ (National
Bank of Ukraine) (above), 2006/ 5/ ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ (2006/ 5/ Hryvnia) (below) and the
NBU Mint logotype.
