Ukraine is a member of the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization)
since May 12, 1954, and since 1962, the Permanent mission of Ukraine at the
UNESCO functions in Paris. The main task of UNESCO lies in strengthening
peace and security through broadening of peoples' cooperation in education,
science and culture. As a member of UNESCO, Ukraine has initiated many
international programs and projects.

On the coin obverse there
depicted the following: within the internal circle upon the background of a
conventionalized ornamental pattern there is the small State emblem of
Ukraine, above which - 2004, the coin mintage year; within the external
circle - inscriptions: ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÀ, 5, ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ and the Mint logo
of the National Bank of Ukraine.
