The commemorative coin is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of birth of Volodymyr M. Chekhivskyi (1876/ 1937), a Ukrainian statesman and political figure. Volodymyr Chekhivskyi was an active participant of the public life of the Odesa City; in 1917 he became a member of the Ukrainian Central Rada. Since 26.12.1918 till 11.02.1919 he headed the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UPR (Ukrainian People's Republic). On his initiative on 01.01.1919 the Government of the UPR proclaimed the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. In 1929 a criminal case was framed up against Chekhivskyi as a result whereof he was arrested and executed by shooting on the isle of Solovki.

On the coin obverse in the centre there is the Small National Emblem of Ukraine, thereunder - the year of  coinage - 2006, there are also the semicircular  inscriptions: above - ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ ÁÀÍÊ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ (National Bank of Ukraine) below - IJ ÃÐÈÂͲ (2 Hryvnias) and the logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint.

On the coin reverse Volodymyr Chekhivskyi is potrayed against the background resembling very conventionalized cross,  to the left there is the inscription: ÂÎËÎÄÈ-/ ÌÈÐ/ ×ÅÕ²Â-/ ÑÜÊÈÉ (Volody/myr /Chekhiv/skyi),  to the right - his years of life - 1876/ 1937.
