These jubilee coins are dedicated to the
150th anniversary of birth of Ivan Yakovych Franko (1856-1916) – a
prominent Ukrainian writer, publicist, public and political figure, D. Sc.
in Philosophy. His talent was not limited to the national framework, he
wrote in the Ukrainian, Polish and German languages. Poetry, prose, drama,
scientific works, journalism - Ivan Franko rose to the highest pitch of
greatness in everything. His contribution to the development of the
Ukrainian journalism, literature and theater studies, folkloristics and
ethnography is invaluable.

On
the obverse of both
coins there is the Small National Emblem of Ukraine placed on the left
above, in the center – a “kameniar” (stone-breaker) shattering a rock,
thereunder – the year of the coin issue
– 2006.
The semicircular inscriptions say: on the silver coin – ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ ÁÀÍÊ
ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ (National Bank of Ukraine) above and Ï’ßÒÜ ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ
(five hryvnias) below, the indication of metal and its fineness –
Ag 925, weight in fineness – 15.55 g; on the German silver coin –
ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ ÁÀÍÊ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ (National Bank of Ukraine) above, IJ
ÃÐÈÂͲ (two hryvnias) below. The logo of the National Bank of Ukraine
Mint is placed on both coins.

the reverse of both
coins there is a portrait of Ivan Franko, to the left and to the right of
the portrait there are lumps of the shattered rock and inscriptions: ²ÂÀÍ
ÔÐÀÍÊÎ (Ivan Franko) on the left and years of his life – 1856 / 1916
(on the right).
